Gift Cards Wanted!

Want to help out the band but not sure what is needed?   Just about every store sells gift cards now and there are very few stores that are not on the "Band Needs Shopping List"."  This is a great way to support the band program!!

Band Support Needs

The South Mecklenburg High School Bands receive funding of only $1,000 from the CMS School System.   This puts our band programs in financial jeopardy.   Band fees cover only a small part of the costs, and with the financial hardships placed on many of our families, it is becoming increasingly difficult to raise the amount of money we need to operate.   The logistics and planning of trips to competitions can exceed more than $1,000 per trip and throughout the year there are additional expenses to repair or replace damaged instruments and equipment.   Additionally the coaches, special instructors, music arrangers, and drill writers need some compensation.

Specifically, band expenses for the year include:

• Administrative

  • Copying and supplies
  • Insurance
  • Postage/P.O. Box
  • Telephone
• Classroom music
• Concert Festival registration
• Instrument/Equipment repair and purchase
• Band, Leadership & Guard camps
• Fall & winter competitions
• Field maintenance
• Honorariums & Awards
• Scholarships
• Show props
• Transportation/lodging
• Uniforms, T-shirts, & band wear
• Winter Guard equipment/facilities

As a result, the Band Boosters and students work hard each year to make the community and alumni aware of this situation and get their support in various ways.

What Can You Do?

As you can see, we need your help, and there is sure to be at least one way you can get involved!  

1. The first step is to talk to one of our Band Booster parents to find out how you might fit in to these efforts.
2. Second, stay up to date on the current fundraisers by checking the Current Fundraisers online.
3. Finally, please support our Sponsors and say thanks as you do business with them.

How Can I Become a CMS Volunteer?

Most volunteer opportunities require that you become an official CMS volunteer.   It's a simple and quick process:

1. Sign up at www.cmsvolunteers.com.   Have your driver's license ready, and fill in the form on-line.
2. After signing up, you will receive an e-mail confirming that your information was received.   You will receive a second e-mail, confirming your status as a volunteer.
3. Forward the second confirmation to Cynthia Rivers: riversfamily4@bellsouth.net
