Band Students
Marching Sabres Overview
Marching Band, although not a requirement of all band students at South Mecklenburg, has quickly become one of the greatest traditions in quality of the overall band program. All hard-working and dedicated students are encouraged to participate in this ensemble.
This award-winning ensemble performs at all home football games and select competitions.
The band and guard rehearse after school three times a week.
A marching band volunteer participant form can be filled out for students who do NOT want to take Marching Band for a half credit.
You must be enrolled in either Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Ensemble to participate in Marching Band.
Exceptions will be made for Orchestra students who play in the front percussion ensemble.
Marching Sabres are expected to contribute to their program through payment of band fees as well as volunteering at fundraising events.
2009 Band Fee Information
To help meet the current budget, each marching band student (including color guard) is expected to contribute $500 in fees this year. If you have multiple students in marching band, the fees are reduced to $250 per additional sibling.
Payments are typically broken up into $100 portions each month, however, if you need to work out some other arrangement you may contact the Band Booster treasurer, who will be happy to work with you. We believe that all students should be able to march, regardless of ability to pay.
These fees contribute just a small portion to the entire budget each year. The rest of the budget is raised through fundraisers.

Summer & After-School Rehearsals
Marching Band is all about team. It is vital that every marcher be at every rehearsal and camp. The reason for this is that each marcher has a very unique position in the drill.
Consider a car factory where each worker has a unique job to add a single part to the cars being build on the assembly line. If one worker is not there to add his or her part to the car, the car will not be complete at the end of the day and cannot be sold. Additionally, the other workers may have a very hard time doing their jobs. What if the missing part is the frame? How will the engine be held in place? How can the interior be attached?
It's the same for the marchers. If one marcher is missing, the others around him or her have a much harder time finding their positions and staying together. Even missing one practice can throw off the whole performance!
2009 Band Camp
Band camp was a great success and lots of fun!!!
It was held for two weeks this past summer, Monday through Thursday each week, July 27th through August 6th.
